Thresholds
Recently I came across a word I've never heard before.
Liminal - of, relating to, or being an intermediate state, phase, or condition : in-between, transitional
- example… in the liminal state between life and death.
Full disclosure. I was introduced to this word while watching a trailer for an upcoming video game about vampires.
Now before y'all get ready to string me up by my toes, and douse me with holy water let me share the journey down the rabbit hole I ended up getting lost in. 😏
The original Latin root meaning of the word refers to threshold. So I thought to myself, could this be viewed as an example of faith? Allow me to enter my aviation geek mode as I attempt to provide some clarity.
Let’s consider a state where a threshold is being crossed in the physical realm - like an aircraft on final approach to a runway. As it crosses the actual threshold of the runway, for a brief period it finds itself poised between defying gravity in the transitional (liminal) space of ground effect, just prior to touchdown.
While airborne, pilots trust (put their faith in) the aircraft’s engines and wings to abide by the aerodynamic rules and established laws of physics. Once the wheels have touched the runway, support (lift) is no longer dependent on engine thrust and aerodynamic lift from the wings. The aircraft’s weight is now transferred to the landing gear. No matter how powerful or fast an aircraft is, it's always subject to the forces of gravity. It will always submit to it.
Our faith (or lack thereof) in God is similar. Whether you believe now, or come to a realization when you finally see God face to face… you will submit. While in transition (liminal space) on this earthly plane, your obedience and faith in God, is augmented by His Holy Spirit, who is your lifeline…your support…the wind beneath your wings. What you see, experience, or glean while here, will become even more clear upon (conscious) arrival in that eternal plane. The faith you exercised in your mortal body, will have full support and vindication when you finally come into the presence of God.
Your wings of faith which have carried you across the threshold of your life into eternity, are now vindicated by the firm foundation of the fulfillment of God's Promises for you.
